Once Again Kate Tells Us How to Live on a Tight Budget
Nov 28th, 2008 by BohemianMoon

Proctor and Gamble are certifiably loony tunes (or complete and utter dumb asses) with their choice in a spokesperson, and are once again a perfect example of what the bottom line is with many corporations ~ money.
While I know that that last statement is a big ass DUH!, there are many corporations, American and otherwise, that ARE socially conscious and responsible. Unfortunately, Proctor and Gamble isn’t one of them.
They continue to ride the Gosselin exploitation train in high gear with a poorly chosen Kate Gosselin as their tight budgeting conductor, and expect consumers to believe it. How incredibly moronic do they think most are?
Apparently dolts abound and feel that Kate Gosselin, yes the Kate Gosselin that, in the last year spent a vacation in a luxury ski resort in Utah, two weeks at the Outer Banks in North Carolina, a five day trip to a luxury bungalow in San Diego while on her way to a $40,000 vacation in Hawaii is the perfect person to speak regarding how to live on a tight budget in these economically trying times.
Even her recently aired “yard sale” for charity took a large U-haul truck to hold all the items for sale, and this after her stating at the top of the show that they have a yard sale every year. Tight budget? How in the world did she and her family accumulate enough to fill a large U-haul truck in one year even if we add in the small amount of items that were acquired in years past?
Oh, and as an aside, I particularly enjoyed that many of the items were brand new and unopened, including the cases of what looked to be shampoo and conditioner (from Proctor and Gamble, no doubt). Did you really need to hold on to that Kate? Common freakin’ sense would have dictated bringing new and unopened toiletry items to the nearest women’s shelter as it is something that is always desperately needed (not to mention the toys and clothes for the shelter kids). But you hoarded them for a year, taking up space in your purportedly cramped home for WHAT, exactly?
What?
This woman is hawking lay-away at Kmart coupled with coupon clipping and getting paid for both while stating that they live on a tight budget. This, of course, with after moving in to a purported (purported, look it up) 1.3 million dollar home. The Gosselins have NEVER, according to the Reading Eagle and Patriot News and what has been shown before our eyes on their “reality” TV show, lived on a tight budget in their adult lives. So who and what in the world, pray tell, would take advice on living on a tight budget in trying times from someone who knows nothing about it?
Like Proctor and Gamble, pure unadulterated dumb asses.
(And that is all I have to say about that.)
amen.
Well, just sent my “thanks but no thanks “comment off to P&G. Do they really think the viewing public is that stupid and that enamored?
Thrifty?? In whose sense of the word?
Because they only took 5+ weeks vacation this year? My husband and I haven’t had a weeks vacation in almost 3 years.
Because Kate gets her clothes for free from Ann Taylor? Cause I can’t afford to shop there.
Because she just bought a big ‘ol mansion on a hill? My husband just lost his job and we can’t afford the payment on our 1500 sq ft.
Kate is *thrifty* simply due to the fact that the money rolls in BECAUSE of her children. Their clothes and shoes are free from sponsors. P&G obviously supplies products. Toys are also free from sponsors. Free-Free-Free!
Neither parent holds even a part time job and the family of 10 still has a better quality of life then some families I know with two working parents and two kids!
IMO-P&G has just slapped everyone of their loyal, long time customers in the face, asking us to suspend our belief in *truth in advertising*, and hail Kate Gosselin , Queen of the novelty sandwich recipe, as our savings savior.
Puh-leese! I’ll be buying the store brand from now until this line of BS is over!
***IMO-P&G has just slapped everyone of their loyal, long time customers in the face, ****
That’s how I feel so I wrote and told them so. The gravy train just gets worse. I’d almost forgive TLC if they’d cut out the privacy scenes but after the “wedding” episode (boys getting dressed) and all the reruns, TLC has no plan of slowing down or editing any parts out.
I’ve decided not to watch TLC anymore unless they put Kate on “What Not To Wear” (say, do, steal, beg for, yell at . . . .). I’d like Nick to get a hold of that dead crow in her hair.
I’m running out of companies–I had banned P&G & that will remain so-It’s been a challenge–WTF–MICROSOFT!–The family gift is a free computer–Give me a break–
It’s been a challenge trying to Christmas shop for the kids–Is there any Corporation not lined up to promote this scam?
Hell no they aren’t buying the kids Christmas gifts–It’s Christmas year round–Santa doesn’t visit since they have taught their kids, there isn’t a Santa–Does Fisher Price know this(FP can keep they lead laden toys)?–V-Tech(I never liked this brand anyway)?
How to save money-=feed your kids leftover snack food from Craft Services–Dress them in free overpriced poor quality Gymboree clothes–
I am concerned about young families-these are tough times–What are the Corporation’s thinking? I have been thinking about the young mother’s/women that believe the sun rises in Kate Gosselins ass–Maybe, she gives them something to hold on to? That all we have is from cupon clipping, brown bag lunches all that other crap she spews out–The part I can’t wrap my brain around–Are they stupid, live in a dream world or naive? So do I give them a pass?
The jury is still out—-The shepple that will never get a pass from me-Women my age–OMG–My conclusion here–They don’t have any powers of reasoning now—They never did–It’s too late–These are the same women, when finding grass(anything else they wouldn’t know what it was) in the kids rooms believed—It’s not mine, I’m keeping it for someone–This is the mentality of these women–I will never give them a pass–They have lived long enough to know better==Stupidity is no excuse–
OMG, I had more than one post yesterday on dictionary usage & meanings–They still were unable to grasp what the dates mean after the definition—
OK, I’ve vented–We are celebrating Thanksgiving today at my nieces-I have both girls this weekend-I’m running out of running–I called the lady that helps me in this house, asked her to run through again today while we are away–I could not make it without her–She make it possible for me to enjoy these two pint sized tornado’s–This is my biggest luxury, I’m willing to do without clothes, hair appointments & expensive purses(my weakness)–
Have a wonderful day—
Lisa, You’ve just given me an idea. I’m going to reread all the recaps to see if they sold P&G products at their yardsale. I know about the Mary Kay. If so, marketing might be very interested to know that they were selling this stuff in competition with their retail accounts. When I was in the business world, freebies were not to be sold.
Left my opinion on the comments too…are they really thinking women relate to this cow whoring out her babies so she can sit on her dumb ass duff……WOMEN ARE SMARTER THAN THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what about the mary kay?
Kate Gosselin describing how to live on a budget is like Paris Hilton giving advice on living a celibate lifestyle. Oxymoron P & G. Sorry but anything associated with the Gosselin’s, I am not interested in.

In one of the other recaps it mentions that there were “boxes and boxes” of Mary Kay cosmetics. I’ll give Kate a pass on that one because she may have sold Mary Kay in the past and was just getting rid of the stuff she still had around. Most direct marketers don’t mind if you get rid of stock/display items at a yard sale as long as you are no longer an active salesperson/distributor.

Mary Kay or another company, I have to wonder why they were not donated to a women’s shelter. All women’s shelters are in desperate need of toiletry items, and even if something more along the lines of a “luxury” item such as perfume or make-up etc. still could be used for those in shelters transitioning to interviewing for work, etc.
It is a no brainer for me, but perhaps that it because I am acutely aware of the plight of women in shelters.
I’m glad to see newspapers, etc. finally reporting the truth about these people. How anyone could make Kate a spokesperson for living on a budget or lay-away is beyond me. It’s insulting and has gotten to the point of ridiculousness! Hopefully the millions of us who really do live on a budget will finally flip the channel and stop allowing this travesty to continue!
Moon,
I’m one of those people who “cleans out” hotel rooms of everything that can be donated to a homeless shelter whenever we go on vacation. As I see it, I paid for those soaps and shampoos in my room rate. I agree, all that stuff should be donated.
In Kate’s case, there wouldn’t be any “publicity value” in donating anything to a good cause. The yard sale made for a TV episode. (Oh, the straws they are grasping at).

I hear you.
They now have scheduled another show highlighting the Gosselin “philanthropy” ~ while I am happy that children in the hospital will receive gifts (I am unsure why these children would not receive gifts anyway………….) but why the grandstand? Because that is all it is in its most basic and gross form, grandstanding. As such, I am hardly impressed.
Now, if the “Big” G’s donate their salary for the show to the hospital’s research, etc. I would be more impressed……………………
#13 BoMo, I’m right there with you. Instead of them “donating” by selling something that someone else has provided, let us see them actually donate their time or earnings. That is a true donation. Selling things that they have been given (and proceeds made it sound like the rental truck and tables would be deducted) just doesn’t do a thing for me. At past yard sales Kate has definitely put prices on things and is not known to negotiate her stated price. Her oh just whatever you want to pay at this yard sale indicates just how much she didn’t care about the charitable aspect. It was just a day of work for her for TLC.
I agree, too, that so much of what they were selling would have been of more use to directly donate the items to a charity.

I truly am not one to pick a person’s charities in which they would like to donate to. Hubs and I have a few that are near and dear to our hearts and which we have been donating to for years.
However, anything that can be used by the women and children at the women’s shelter, it goes straight there. Women’s shelters are notoriously under funded in this country and are always in need of tangible items such as woman and children’s clothing (particularly clothing to help a woman transition into the work place), toys and toiletry items. Also many women’s shelters also house (assuming they have the room) donated kitchen items to help women start anew when they are able to transition into their own space.
I don’t know…………….it seems just like a no brainer and perhaps I am more in tune with women’s shelters having worked with them and the women, particularly those that have been displaced due to domestic violence which is, actually, the majority of women in women’s shelters.
***Now, if the “Big” G’s donate their salary for the show to the hospital’s research, etc. I would be more impressed……………………****
That’s what I’ve been saying all along.
We would ALL be impressed, and maybe even nice to Kate (for a day) had they donated THAT weeks salary. They still earned their money so, as far as I’m concerned, they really didn’t “donate” anything.

Yep!
I mean how very crass, tacky and everything in between is it for 1) to even broadcast donating and for 2) make a boat load of money while you are donating so little.
The staged selling of donated items while getting paid a mint for it and whining the entire time about it, just gives one some major warm fuzzies, doesn’t it?
I am boycotting Proctor and Gamble products in the future. I do not feel that the Gosselin children should be used to sell products, even if this is done by having their Mother be a spokeswoman for their company. The children’s life is being played out on the television for millions to watch very intimate moments of their life and this is multiple episode slots every week. The Dionne Quints (Canadian quints who have spoke of the ruination of their lifes due to being exhibited) certainly had nothing to complain about if you compare it to what is being done to these children. Horrendously horeendous (as Kate would say)
I have already e-mailed all of the sponsers that I could find . I refuse to buy anything that Kate is connected to in any way.
