Going Once, Going Twice……………….SOLD!
Sep 12th, 2008 by BohemianMoon

…..To the creepiest bidder that is looking to buy himself “some”. Now this isn’t just any piece of proverbial as, er um………. this “some” is that of a 22 year woman with her virginity intact as evidenced by a polygraph test to secure the authenticity. A test that may no longer admissible in a court of law, but hey, at legal brothel Moonlite Bunny Ranch in Mound House (yes MOUND HOUSE, you can’t make this stuff up!), Nevada, it is apparently worth its weight in gold.
So who is this “some”?
She is a 22 year old young woman, going under the pseudonym of ‘Natalie Dylan’, who is trying to raise funds to finance her post graduate work in marital and family counseling. It is her hope that she can raise enough funds, via the selling of her virginity, to achieve her doctorate without having to work at another job other than her studies. It is reported that both she and her sister were victims of identity theft with the thief taking out student loans in their names, and thus she can no longer acquire loans to finish her studies. She first approached Ebay with her auction and when they turned her down, she turned to the world famous Bunny Bar Ranch, home of legal prostitution. As of today’s date, the bid was $250,000, but ‘Natalie’ is hoping that the bidding stops with nothing less than a million, and she reserves her right to a man in which there is ‘chemistry’.
A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do?
I am caught in a dichotomy of appalled and applaud, and it is an uncomfortable place to be.
Selling a virgin to the highest bidder is historically nothing new (and nothing admirable as far as I am concerned) but it was usually at the hands of the girl’s parent/s and oftentimes came with a husband attached……….whether she wanted him or not. And while I abhor the exploitation of women at any price, I cannot condemn a woman for choosing to exploit herself and naming the amount. After all, she is the keeper of herself emotionally, spiritually, physically and yes, monetarily.
In other words, she can do whatever she damn well chooses with her body and that is a sentiment I cannot help but to support and applaud.
(Chew on that Palin!)
WE HAVE COME A LONG WAY BABY, and there ain’t no turning back now!
While many opposing the choices that this young woman is making by playing their religion or “virginity is sacred” card, I honor your views as valid as that is your belief and you are entitled to it. However there are others, myself obviously included, that strongly believe that it is a woman’s exclusive right to choose what, when, how and why regarding her body, and that certainly includes her virginity.
Besides, lets be REAL, enlightened ladies. How magical WAS the first time anyway? With hindsight being 20/20, a million bucks or so for my first experience (meh!) certainly could have come in handy. Hell I am almost shedding a tear thinking of possibilities lost!
My appall and creep meter does tip the scale, however, at the thought of what type of man in the year 2008 is still so caught up in the pure virgin fantasy, that he would willingly put up and pay outrageous bucks to bring it to reality, or relive it, depending on what the case may be. Is the hunter/power/conquest gene still so very strong within the male DNA that cost to a “modern man” still may be no object when it comes to “some” virginity? Any virginity? A current bid of $250,000 would confirm a big YES on that point, and that is the saddest commentary I have today. And for tomorrow, for that matter.
Lets just hope she reaches a million.
To play devil’s advocate:
It feels as if there is a double standard that you putting forth to exist, as a woman who sells her virginity is empowered and yet the male who purchases the sexual act is perverted or chauvinistic and merely perpetuating some age-old dynamic of dominance (which, I concede, does exist). If you assert that there can be no other type of male who would make this purchase, you are damning this young lady to be assaulted at the hands of a creep in exchange for the money and, therefore, her personality and personal integrity must be thrown into doubt. What form of empowered woman would willingly complete this transaction?
On the other hand, and out of the devil’s advocate form, one could argue that she is empowered because she is able to make self-sacrifice at the hands of these creeps in order to promulgate into being some greater good for her and her future progeny. I can deride no person who is willing to sacrifice their own well-being (and you could section this activity, being that, by the very act of losing the female virginity, a wound is created, if temporary) in the pursuit of higher education and academic enlightenment.
Yeah BoMo, that hindsight thing is a real downer! A few missed opportunities to say the least!
I am like you in asking the question: (paraphrased obviously)
What kind of freako guy would put up that sort of money to de-flower a virgin?
Interesting Oprah yesterday “Why Men Cheat”.
Alot of times it ain’t the sex ( frequency yes, type? no).
And although I missed the actual convo there was quite the discussion about the women men have affairs with. They are usually not any better looking than their wives!!
The author of the book said women don’t need to spend all that time, excercising, beauty-treatment-ing, etc. if they are doing it to keep their husbands interest “UP” so to speak.
Spend time with him……….
#2 Lisa~
While I am not sure that I would really of ever sold my virginity, lol, I have to stand by my assertion that women are the keepers of themselves and their bodies, and that, my friend, is the bottomline.
As I stated in that entry, I question the male more than the female, and lets face it, prostitution is called the world’s oldest profession for a reason, lol.
I do feel that it should be legalized and taxed, allowing the woman full control of course, with the tax monies going to fund education. It is much like my stance on marijuana.
And yes, I would agree with the author that claims time with your spouse is one of the most important factors in keeping the relationship and love alive.
There is also that little thing called vows to uphold, assuming that there is no domestic violence/child abuse present.
As men paying big bucks for the chance at a virgin……….well, my men here are heebed out by it. Now whether they are giving lip service, I don’t know, though I feel that both are a little disturbed by it. Most likely because they are both enlightened men, and champions for women’s rights.
And I raised FIVE who feel the same way as yours…
oh, make that 6, I forgot hubby.
Sorry hubby!
